Perak police have arrested an individual for their alleged involvement in a fire that broke out at Beruas MP Ngeh Koo Ham’s house earlier this week.

Perak police chief Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said that the arrest was made at 4am today in Shah Alam, Selangor.

“The arrested individual is in his thirties and does not possess a criminal record.

“A remand application was made and approved for five days until Jan 16 for further investigation,” he said in a statement.

Yusri added that the case was being investigated under Section 435 Penal Code which is liable to 14 years imprisonment and a fine.

Yesterday, he said that the police had recorded statements from seven individuals and that the police were waiting for results from 11 samples taken by the Fire and Rescue Department.

There were no casualties reported in the 2.50am incident but three cars were affected, including a Mercedes E300, which was almost completely razed.

Also partially burnt were a Honda CRV, and Toyota Hilux, as well as the house’s porch roof.

Following the incident, Ngeh said he had forgiven the alleged arsonists behind the fire, but also blamed Perikatan Nasional components PAS and Bersatu for fanning tensions that led to the incident.

Various parties including those from PN had condemned the incident.

However, PAS and Bersatu leaders have hit out at the Perak DAP leader for his claim against them. – Malaysiakini
