A married couple, who are the owners of a tahfiz school in Taman Tun Abdul Razak, Ampang, were detained in connection with the alleged abuse of their students.
Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Farouk Eshak said a team of police personnel raided the school at about 3.45pm on Monday (April 26) and arrested both suspects.
He said a 35-year-old woman had earlier lodged a report on April 23, claiming that her son, who was one of the students, had been abused by the owners.
“The woman went to the school on April 23 to settle school fees and to see her son.
“She claimed that her son was shivering in fear and crying. He was also adamant about not remaining in the school.
“After questioning him further, the son finally said that the male suspect had punched the back of his neck and hit him on the arms and legs with a cane. He also claimed that the man’s wife had slapped his face four times,” he said when contacted on Tuesday (April 27).
Initial investigations revealed that the boy had new and old bruises on his body, added ACP Mohamad Farouk.
“Eight male students, aged between seven and 15, were also rescued during the raid.
“They also claimed to have been abused by the couple. All the boys were sent to Ampang Hospital for further examinations,” he said.
ACP Mohamad Farouk said the school has been operating without a proper licence since October last year.
“We are investigating the matter under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001.
“We are still recording the statements of the other students to ascertain the extent of the abuse,” he said. – The Star
