Pakatan Harapan leaders are expected to meet on the offer made by Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob to join the National Recovery Council and Covid-19 special committee.
According to a source in the coalition, key leaders from PKR, DAP and Amanah will meet either today or within the next few days.
“Following this meeting, any decision made will then be discussed with other opposition parties, such as Pejuang, Muda and Warisan,” the source told FMT.
“So far, PH has not made any decision and will brainstorm the offer, as there are many uncertainties in joining hands with the government (in the council and committee).”
The source said the meeting is also being held as DAP had shown interest to work with Ismail but “the stand of PKR and Amanah is still up in the air”.
He said the PH leaders will discuss if the offer is beneficial because “if the present government makes a blunder, we do not want to be dragged into the mud with them”.
He said the rakyat are waiting for the response from PH to the offer and the meeting will look at justifying the decision to take it up or not.
“PH leaders want to have a united front. We need to clearly state the reason for our decision,” he said.
The meeting will also discuss the possibility of opposition MPs having been offered ministerial posts.
“There were rumours that some MPs may have been contacted personally and given offers to work with the government.
“This will also be discussed,” the source said, adding that a press statement will be issued once a decision is finalised. – FMT
