Party leaders have flocked to the Prime Minister’s Department in Putrajaya, where Dr Mahathir Mohamad began his first day of work as interim prime minister with no government.

Among them are Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Sembrong MP Hishammuddin Hussein.
So is sacked PKR deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali, outed by DAP as a driver in the weekend’s political manoeuvring that led to Dr Mahathir’s resignation yesterday.
Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin, who took the party Dr Mahathir founded in 2016 out of the Pakatan Harapan coalition yesterday, is also there.
From PKR, president Anwar Ibrahim, adviser Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar are also at Dr Mahathir’s office.
It is not clear whether he is meeting them as a group or separately.
The current political crisis now hinges on who Dr Mahathir will align himself with to form a government, as most parties and MPs have previously declared that they support him to be prime minister.
As interim prime minister, Dr Mahathir also has to power to run the government and appoint ministers, now that cabinet he appointed in 2018 has been dissolved. – TMI
