Two armed robbers were killed in a shootout with police at Bandar Baru Sentul and Jalan Segambut in the early hours this morning.
The incident took place at 3:30 am when police were carrying out operation ‘Ops Rantau: Tapak Projek’ in Bandar Baru Sentul.
They came across two suspicious-looking men who hastily left a construction site and sped off, each in a Proton Waja.
Police immediately gave chase.
The duo, aged 26 and 46, split up at the intersection near the Bandar Baru Sentul mosque. The 46-year-old man headed to the right, while the other fled to the left.
The 46-year-old suspect rammed his vehicle into a police car several times during the chase and fired several shots, prompting the cops to return fire. The robber was killed during the shootout.
The other suspect was killed along Jalan Segambut when he tried to shoot policemen who had cornered his car at the side of the road.
City deputy police chief Datuk Mazlan Lazim said guns, bullets, several machetes, and other items, including cutters, gloves and ski masks were recovered from both cars.
Police also found mounds of copper wire in the cars, believed to have been stolen from the construction site.
Mazlan said preliminary background checks showed that both suspects have criminal records, including for robbery and drug offences.
