Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub was laid to rest at the Muslim burial grounds in Jalan Sulong Serkat, Pontian today.

Salahuddin’s remains were flown to Johor early this morning and taken to his mother Aminah Abdullah’s house in Kampung Serkat (Kopi Tenggek), Tanjung Piai.

Accompanying Salahuddin’s body were his wife, Datin Seri Fatimah Taha, and their six children.

A sombre atmosphere enveloped the house when the body arrived at 3.35am today.

Salahuddin’s body was then brought to his residence in Jalan Adil, Serkat, before it was taken to Masjid Jamek Dato’ Haji Noh Gadot for funeral prayers.

It was learnt that it was one of his final wishes that his body be taken to his mother’s house before he was laid to rest.

Salahuddin also wanted his eldest son, Iskandar Zulkarnain, 37, to lead the funeral prayers held at the mosque.

All of his final wishes were fulfilled.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who arrived with his wife, Datuk Seri Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, led the mosque congregation of politicians, family members and friends during the funeral prayers after Iskandar.

Politicians, relatives, friends and local community members paid their last respects to the late minister.

Those present include Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir, Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil, Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi and State Secretary Tan Sri Dr Azmi Rohani.

Also present were party leaders, including Parti Amanah Negara chairman Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu and deputy chairman Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad, DAP chairman Lim Guan Eng and Johor Pas commissioner Abdullah Husin.

More than 1,000 people attended the funeral at the mosque. – NST
