Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah is contemplating a second royal pardon request for Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
Shafee, Najib’s lead counsel, clarified that any new application would not affect his client’s right to challenge the addendum issued by the former Yang di-Pertuan Agong regarding house arrest.
“As of now, no second pardon application has been submitted, but I am considering it. If we proceed, it will be without prejudice to Najib’s addendum,” he stated at a press conference today.
Najib, the former prime minister, is currently serving a six-year prison sentence for misappropriating RM42 million from SRC International Sdn Bhd.
The High Court had initially sentenced him to 12 years in prison and imposed a RM210 million fine. This decision was upheld by both the Court of Appeal and the Federal Court. However, following his royal pardon petition on 2nd September 2022, his sentence was reduced to six years, and his fine was lowered to RM50 million.
