Sibu’s Suitcase Murder: Husband and Wife Charged

A couple has been charged at the Magistrate’s Court with the murder of a woman whose body was stuffed into a suitcase near Jalan Aman.

The two accused persons, Cheung Chia Ming from Jalan Tun Sambanthan, Kuala Lumpur and his wife Seow Pei Chie of Subang Jaya, Selangor were charged with the murder of the woman whose body was found two weeks ago.

The couple, both 38, understood the charge when it was read to them by a court interpreter. No plea was recorded.

Magistrate Fatimah Azura Wan Ali denied them bail and ordered them to be remanded in prison until Nov 19 for further mention of the case.

According to the brief facts of the case, the duo had between 10pm on Oct 5 and 6am on Oct 6 committed murder by causing the death of Heng Meow Lin, 37, from Perak, at a house on Jalan Tong Sang.

Heng’s body was stuffed in a suitcase and later found by a passer-by on Jalan Aman who alerted the police.

Sibu OCPD Asst Comm Stanley Jonathan Ringgit had on Oct 15 said the motives of the murder are believed to be jealousy and money.

A post-mortem showed that the victim succumbed to asphyxia and head injury due to blunt force trauma.

The charge under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder provides for the mandatory death penalty if convicted. – The Star
