Kota Raja Umno division chief, Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz has been appointed as an Umno Supreme Council member.
Tengku Zafrul, who is also the Minister of International Trade and Industry, took his oath in front of Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and other council members at a meeting held at Menara Datuk Onn last night.
The swearing in was also confirmed by Umno secretary general Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan, who sent out a tweet about the oath taking ceremony on his official Twitter account.
“The Umno Supreme Council meeting tonight started with the oath-taking by Senator Tengku Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz as the newest Umno Supreme Council member. He was appointed by the president,” he tweeted.
Tengku Zafrul is also Selangor Barisan Nasional treasurer.
The former finance minister had earlier hinted that he would be contesting for one council post in the upcoming party polls.
Tengku Zafrul had said by contesting, he would be able to affirm his political support and build a better foundation for himself in the political arena.
Tengku Zafrul also stood in his first general election last year where he contested in the Kuala Selangor parliamentary seat for Umno but lost to Pakatan Harapan’s Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad by 1,002 votes. – NST
