Former PKR vice-president Tian Chua is tight-lipped on whether he will assist fellow party member P Prabakaran with his campaign in the 15th general election (GE15).
The former Batu MP said he had his own opinions about Prabakaran’s performance and would prefer that voters make the decision themselves.
“They don’t need to hear my recommendations. Prabakaran needs to prove he has the people’s support,” he said in an interview with Media Mulia.
Tian Chua was a two-term MP but was barred from taking part in GE14. He then backed Prabakaran, who ran as an independent and won the Batu seat. Prabakaran later joined PKR.
In May’s PKR elections, Prabakaran defeated Tian Chua for the division chief’s post.
The Star previously reported that Tian Chua was seeking to stand in Batu in GE15, but PKR has announced that Prabakaran will be defending his seat.
Tian Chua said Prabakaran has the opportunity to defend the seat on his own strength as PKR’s candidate.
“Last time around, it was (an) indirect (victory), he was an independent who won with Pakatan Harapan’s support. They were going to vote for me,” he said. – FMT
