Annuar Musa’s claim that the then prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin gave Umno millions of ringgit to help the party during the 2020 Sabah elections has stirred up netizens into asking the source of the funds.
In a video posted on TikTok, the Ketereh Umno chief also said allegations that Perikatan Nasional chairman Muhyiddin intended to “kill” Umno were “false and fabricated”.
Facebook user Faisal Ismail questioned the origin of the funds that Muhyiddin supposedly gave to Umno.
“What a joker, where did ‘Abah’ get the money?” asked another user named Jepin. “MACC (Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission), please investigate.”
Muhyiddin used to refer to himself as “Abah” or father.
Similarly, Syafiqa Husna said: “Wow. Abah has so much money?”
“That’s really stable,” she said, in an apparent reference to PN’s promise of a clean and stable government if elected.
Several users directed their disdain directly at Annuar, questioning the timing of the communication and multimedia minister’s revelation.
Annuar was among the Umno leaders dropped from Barisan Nasional’s list of candidates in the 15th general election (GE15).
Facebook user Syauqi Hashifudin asked why Annuar’s revelation was being made only after BN had “lost badly” in GE15.
“What would Annuar’s script have been if they (had) won big?” Syauqi asked.
“Only when (the situation) is like this, you want to reveal (Muhyiddin giving funds)? Why didn’t you report it to MACC?” asked Faridah Ghazali. – FMT
