DAP is expected to field prominent broadcast journalist and TV presenter Tan Yunn Chzuan, popularly known as Yunna Tan, in the Balakong by-election.

Tan, a reporter with Astro AEC, hosts two popular prime-time Chinese current affairs programmes – ‘Evening Edition’ and ‘Prime Talk’.
She is somewhat also a social media influencer with more than 81,000 people following her Facebook page.
Reportedly, 33-year-old Tan is expected to resign from Astro to focus on the by-election scheduled for Sept 8.
The Balakong state seat fell vacant following the death of its assemblyman Eddie Ng Tien Chee in an accident at the Grand Saga Highway on July 20.
In the 14th general election, Ng retained the seat for the second term after defeating Lim Chin Wah from Barisan Nasional and Mohamad Ibrahim Ghazali of PAS with a 35,538-vote majority.
Meanwhile, Selangor MCA secretary Ng Chok Sin said the party’s central committee will be holding a meeting next Friday to decide on a candidate.
He said the by-election will be a tough one for MCA and senior party leaders do not appear to have an appetite for it.
“We can field a local. We can find someone young to give them some campaign experience,” said Ng.
Nomination day falls on Aug 18 and the campaign period will last 21 days.
