The candidate for Sabah chief minister will only be chosen once Barisan Nasional and its partners win the state election, says Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
“Barisan decided that the Sabah chief minister will only be chosen by their state assemblymen and political partners when there are enough seats to form a new state government,” tweeted the Umno president on Saturday (Sept 12).
Many comments to the tweet noted that Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin had suggested Sabah Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia chief Datuk Hajiji Noor as a potential candidate for the post should Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS, an alliance between Perikatan Nasional, Barisan Nasional and Parti Bersatu Sabah) wins the polls.
Some also questioned if cracks had widened between Perikatan and Umno as Zahid had previously suggested Sabah Umno chief Datuk Seri Bung Mokhtar for the chief minister post. – The Star
