Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has welcomed Tanjung Karang MP Zulkafperi Hanapi’s support for the prime minister.
The more opposition leaders back Anwar Ibrahim’s administration, the better, said the Umno president.
“I think the more, the merrier. The more lawmakers support the prime minister, the stronger the Madani government becomes.
“Now, the government has the support of 153 MPs, which is more than the two-thirds majority,” Zahid said at a press conference after a working visit to the Civil Defence Forces in Kajang, Selangor, today.
He was responding to Zulkafperi’s announcement backing Anwar earlier today, citing the well-being of his constituents.
In pledging his support, the Bersatu lawmaker said he made the decision for the sake of his constituents’ welfare and infrastructural development in the constituency.https://www.malaysiakini.com/news/694246
Zulkafperi also stressed that his decision was voluntary and not due to pressure and that he would remain loyal to Bersatu.
Elaborating, Zahid said that Zulkafperi’s decision was the individual right of a lawmaker.
“If there are attempts by an individual or politician to come into a political house through the window, I think it’s better to kick them out through the same window as well.”
Previously, five other Bersatu MPs have pledged their support for Anwar’s government.
They are Kuala Kangsar MP Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid, Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal (Bukit Gantang), Mohd Azizi Abu Naim (Gua Musang), Zahari Kechik (Jeli), and Suhaili Abdul Rahman (Labuan). – Malaysiakini
