Public figures sending other public figures birthday wishes on social media is a common thing these days.
However, when Youth and Sports Minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, who is from Johor, took to wishing Tunku Temenggong Johor Tunku Idris Sultan Ibrahim on the latter’s 31st birthday yesterday, he perhaps did not expect the kind of backlash that just happened last night.
The wish was posted by Syed Saddiq on Twitter in a general manner as Tunku Idris does not have an official account on the micro-blogging site.
“Happy Birthday Tunku Idris. Patik will always pray for Tunku and Tunku family’s wellbeing. Keep on inspiring!” wrote Syed Saddiq.
Several hours ago, the posting was retweeted by Tunku Idris’ brother, Tengku Mahkota Johor Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim.
A retweet is normal, but this retweet came with a hard-hitting comeback.
“Please…do what you want…Just leave my family alone and save your sucking up for other people,” Tunku Ismail.
With the reply from the Johor Crown Prince posted at 10.05pm, it has since been retweeted over 1,200 times.
Responding to a Twitter user who asked, “Aren’t you supposed to show a good example towards the rakyat”, Tunku Ismail replied, “With all due respect. This is a request.”
