Accolades for Filial Son, a Real Man

A video that went viral in China, it has now been widely spread throughout the world with praises heaped on a devoted son who dressed as a woman for 20 years to help his grieving mother cope with the death of his sister.

The 90-second clip uploaded by Pear Video on social media platform Weibo has since garnered millions of views.

The man, who is in his 50s, hails from Guilin.

The footage shows him wearing a cheongsam as he tenderly tends to his elderly mother who appears smiling and happy.

The man told Pear Video that he started dressing as a woman two decades ago after his mother began to show signs of mental illness following the death of her daughter.

He added that his mother was immediately convinced that her daughter had come back.

“She was so happy, so I kept doing it,” he said.

“I’ve basically been living as a woman ever since,” he added. “I don’t own any men’s clothing.”

In the video, his mother refers to her son saying: “She is my daughter. When my other daughter died she became my daughter.”

The man said he is not concerned about what people think.

“Why would I be afraid of people laughing at me? I am doing it for my mother,” he said.

Many netizens were moved by the man’s actions, hailing him as a “filial son”.

This is a real man,” wrote one Weibo user.
