A stunning photograph captures rain thundering down over half of Taipei city.

A photographer captured the incredible moment rain thundered down like a waterfall over Taipei, soaking only half of the city.

The amazing image shows a huge summer rainstorm lashing Taiwan’s capital city in the middle of the afternoon.

On the left side, the clouds appear to open up and the ‘waterfall’ of rain pours down onto the city, while the right side remains dry. In the background of the picture, taken by Jeff Chen, the city landmark Taipei 101 can also be seen.

Weather experts say the storm conditions shown in Chen’s photo are ‘normal’ in Taiwan in the summer and is the result of uneven moisture distribution.

They said the build-up of moisture in small areas causes powerful isolated showers but that they are not always as clearly photographed.
