Sungai Besar Umno division head Datuk Jamal Yunos revealed he would give out a Mercedes-Benz C200 as the grand prize at the third “concert”.

Online news portal Malaysiakini reported Jamal had not yet set the time and venue for the “concert” before polling day on May 9 but said a sponsor had already been secured.

“I’m not sure whether it will be held in Sungai Besar or Sekinchan.

“I don’t dare announce the time and place as there is yet to be a formal letter from the sponsor, but the grand prize will be a Mercedes-Benz C Class C200,” he said at a press conference in Sekinchan yesterday.

This is despite the police report lodged against him for “vote buying”.

Jamal had on Monday held a free concert with free food, and a chance to win a motorcycle and RM25,000 in cash, in his bid to wrest the fishing village from DAP.

He had also promised the fisherfolk RM2,000 each if Barisan Nasional (BN) wins the state seat.

He claimed the money had come from 13 “successful” companies owned by fishermen who wanted to show their gratitude to BN for helping them out.

Irked by this, a DAP member lodged a police report, claiming the action was tantamount to vote buying.

Undeterred by the police report against him, Jamal said he was confident the authorities would take action against him if he had committed an offence.

“Let them (critics) lodge 1,000, or 2,000 reports, I have no issues (with that).

“What is important to me is getting to know voters with (BN’s) candidates.

“There is not even 10 sen from the candidate, from BN, Umno or other BN component parties (given out to voters). It is all from sponsors,” the news portal quoted him as saying.

Adding that Malaysia is a democratic country, Jamal dared the Opposition candidates to attend his “concert”, saying: “But they have to take the risk, as the thousands who are present will be BN supporters.”
