Parti Amanah Negara is appealing to the King and the Pardon Board to reject the pardon application for former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
Amanah communications director Khalid Samad said while the party acknowledged and recognised that forgiveness was the absolute right of Yang di-Pertuan Agong, it was of the view that pardoning Najib would send a bad message to the people, the national justice system and also to the world regarding our attitude and stance towards corruption and misuse of power.
“It will damage the image of the Malaysia Madani policy brought by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
“With all respect and reverence, we from Amanah appeal to Yang di-Pertuan Agong and the Pardon Board to reject this pardon application and for Najib to continue to be imprisoned because of the obvious crimes he has committed,” Khalid said in a statement on Friday (April 28).
It is said that the Board of Pardons will meet and decide whether to grant a pardon to Najib on Friday. – The Star
