A Magistrate’s Court in Perlis has granted a one-day remand order against the son of state menteri besar Mohd Shukri Ramli and five others.

This came after they were arrested in connection with an MACC probe for alleged documents forgery to make false claims amounting to RM600,000.

A senior officer in Shukri’s office was also reportedly among those remanded since earlier this morning.

“The suspects aged between 27 and 37 were wanted to assist in investigations over the execution of various infrastructure projects including repairs, maintenance, procurement and services across Perlis since 2022.

“The investigations are also believed to point towards false claims made for undelivered projects,” a source was reported as saying by Berita Harian.

Putrajaya MACC special operations senior director Azmi Kamaruzaman reportedly confirmed the arrests.

According to the Malay daily, the suspects were believed to act as company owners, contractors and civil servants in the Perlis state secretariat and Menteri Besar’s Office.

It was also reported that the suspects investigated under Section 18 of the MACC Act were arrested between 7am and 8am yesterday and brought before Magistrate Ana Rozana Mohd Nor at 8.45am today. – Malaysiakini
