After multiple extensions, the two sons of former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad have declared their assets to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said both Tan Sri Mokhzani Mahathir and Mirzan Mahathir had submitted their asset declarations within the stipulated time.

“The investigators are still finalising the details with their respective lawyers. The most important thing is that they have declared (their assets),” he told reporters yesterday.

Initially, the MACC had directed the two brothers to declare their assets within 30 days in January.

Since then, they have been granted extensions, with the final one given until mid-September.

It was reported that the MACC had directed Mokhzani and his older brother Mirzan to declare assets they had accumulated since 1981, the year Dr Mahathir became prime minister for the first time.

On another matter, Azam said his officers had yet to locate the whereabouts of businessman Datuk Seri Muhammad Adlan Berhan, who is Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s son-in-law.

“Efforts to track him down are ongoing,” Azam added.

On Feb 22, Azam said several criminal breach of trust charges had been framed against Muhammad Adlan.

On Aug 9 last year, Muhammad Adlan denied that he was trying to evade authorities.

His lawyer, Datuk Dr Baljit Singh Sidhu, said his client categorically rejected claims that he was “a fugitive on the run”. – The Star
