Prosecution calls its final witness.
The prosecution today called its last witness to take the stand as the corruption trial involving Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor enters its final stage before the judge rules whether she should be called to enter her defence.
The witness, Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) investigating officer Nor Nabilah Mohd Aziman, 30, completed her testimony in about two hours this afternoon.
She will be cross-examined by Rosmah’s lawyers tomorrow and they have indicated to Judge Mohamed Zaini Mazlan that their questions would take no longer than one day.
Once this is completed, another witness, former Education Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid, will be recalled for further cross-examination by the defence.
He was supposed to take the stand today but could not make it to court as he has been placed under quarantine after returning from campaigning in the Sabah state elections.
Lead prosecutor Datuk Seri Gopal Sri Ram informed the court that Mahdzir’s quarantine would end on Oct 12 and the earliest the witness can turn up in court would be on the following day.
Zaini then fixed Oct 13 for Mahdzir to show up in court. Once Mahdzir’s testimony is completed, the judge will fix a date for submissions before he decides whether the accused should be called to enter her defence.
Rosmah is on trial for soliciting RM187.5 million and two counts of receiving bribes totalling RM6.5 million from Jepak Holdings Sdn Bhd former managing director Saidi Abang Samsuddin.
The bribes were allegedly received as a reward for helping Jepak Holdings secure the RM1.25 bllion solar hybrid project for 369 schools in the interior of Sarawak.
Rosmah was accused of committing the offences between January 2016 and Sept 2017. – NST
