He’s back, and with allegations of abduction in Thailand while the police are fuming for having wasted resources on the case.

Chong claims:

  • Went to Hatyai to follow a tip-off on Raymond Koh’s whereabouts
  • Abducted in Hatyai
  • Held captive in Pattaya
  • Advised to lodge report in Hatyai, but chose not to
  • Contacted son who arranged flight home

He’s back, and with allegations of abduction in Thailand while the police are fuming for having wasted resources on the case.

The actions of Peter Chong had caused panic throughout the nation, said IGP Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar.

“He wasted a lot of our man-hours. We need to know why he did that so we are still investigating.

Khalid said police were doubtful about Chong’s explanation on his disappearance and are now working with Pattaya police to verify some information.

When asked if there were any new leads in the investigation of Pastor Raymond Koh’s abduction, he declined to comment.

He said the other three activists – Pastor Joshua Hilmy and wife Ruth, and Amri Che Mat – were still classified as “missing” as there was no evidence that they were abducted or kidnapped.

The Sun Daily reported that according to sources, Chong had told police that he had left for Hatyai following a tip-off that a man was willing to share information on the whereabouts of Raymond Koh. Apparently, on his arrival there, he was instructed to go to a hotel room. He was met by a Malay man at the hotel who allegedly abducted and took him to Pattaya. Chong claimed he was held captive before being freed later. He tried to lodge a police report in Pattaya, but Pattaya police advised him to make a report with Hatyai police where the abduction had taken place. Chong chose not to do so but called his son who then arranged for him to fly back to Malaysia.

If Chong’s claims turn out to be untrue, he may be charged with making a false statement.
