Following speculation of fresh attempts to topple the unity govt.

Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Pas president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang have been urged to heed the reminders issued by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and the Sultans of various states on ensuring the country’s political stability.

The call from DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang to Muhyiddin and Abdul Hadi came on the heels of speculation of fresh attempts to topple the unity government, which would allegedly take place through a forced by-election.

Lim highlighted the concern expressed by the Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar over rumours concerning the stability of the government, as only six months have passed since the 15th General Election (GE15).

“I call on Muhyiddin and Hadi to declare that Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) and Pas would heed the reminders by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and the Sultans of various states to politicians from all parties to ensure political stability in the country and that they would not be involved in any plot to topple the unity government for the next five years.

“This was the message of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong in his royal address during the opening of the 15th Parliament in February, but it went unheeded for the last three months.

“This is a test of whether political leaders and politicians are prepared to subordinate their personal interests and that of their political parties to national interests,” said Lim in a statement.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim previously did not deny the existence of a conspiracy to topple the unity government.

Anwar, however, said the plot did not have any strong basis and described those behind it as ‘daydreamers’. – NST
