The Covid-19 caseload might hit one million by the end of July or early August if the trend of infection continues, warned former Prime Minister Najib Razak in a Facebook post.

“I don’t understand the idea behind using the Emergency to combat Covid. It is another lie,” said Najib.

He said that Malaysia has climbed 80 rungs since the start of the emergency to place 33rd in a rank of countries with the highest Covid-19 caseload and attached a chart showing the country’s position.

Najib added that this is without taking into account the size of Malaysia’s population.

He also said that given the number of new cases and fatalities relative to population size, Malaysia is one of the worst-performing nations in the world since the beginning of the third movement control order.

Yesterday, 77 fatalities were reported, bringing the death toll to 5,980.

Today, Malaysia records a whopping number of 9,353 new infections, exceeding the 9,180 figure yesterday, and raising the total caseload to 827,191. Selangor and Kuala Lumpur account for the bulk of the cases. – TMI
