A body was discovered by security personnel conducting the search and rescue operation for missing Irish teenager Nora Anne Quoirin, police sources said today.

However, the body remains unidentified at the moment.

Quoirin’s parents were brought to the site of the discovery at 4.17pm.

According to the police sources, the body was found fully intact.

A heavy police presence is occupying the area, with personnel from the K-9 unit, sexual crimes division, and forensics team present.

It was reported that the Lucie Blackman Trust has said the body is “likely” to be that of the 15-year-old.

State Police chief Mohammed Yusop said: “I can confirm a body has been found in the Betembum mountains. It is not in an accessible place”.

Forensic teams were seen leaving from Pantai police station to race to the scene, which has been sealed off. It is less than a kilometre from where Nora was last seen and is near a waterfall.

The UK Daily Mail reported that the body found was that of a white-skinned female and it was discovered by a member of the public.

Members of the Irish and French embassies were reportedly at the scene.
